In the excavator industry, the performance of the display and engine control module (ECM) of the E349 Next Generation product is directly related to the operating experience, work efficiency and overall reliability of the equipment. Comprehensive and accurate testing of these two key components is an important prerequisite for ensuring the stable operation of the E349 excavator under complex working conditions. Let our Hyunkook shop engineer Mark teach you how to do it.
PREPARATION BEFORE TESTING
Equipment and tool preparation:
Prepare a powerful laptop that meets the requirements of the test software. Its operating system must be fully compatible with the test software to be used, and it must have sufficient memory, large storage space and high processor computing power to ensure smooth data processing during the test. In addition, it is equipped with professional diagnostic equipment, such as a fault diagnostic instrument adapted to the E349 excavator. This type of diagnostic instrument can establish an efficient data communication connection with the display and ECM to achieve real-time monitoring and data reading of the equipment’s operating status. At the same time, prepare cables of various specifications, including data cables for connecting computers and diagnostic equipment, diagnostic equipment and excavator displays and ECM, to ensure that the interfaces match and the cables are not damaged, broken or short-circuited.
Test environment construction:
Choose a spacious, flat indoor site without strong electromagnetic interference as the test area. Avoid testing in complex environments such as construction sites to prevent external electromagnetic signals from interfering with the accuracy of test data. Ensure that the test site has a stable power supply, and the voltage fluctuation range should be within the operating voltage range allowed by the equipment to prevent damage to the display or ECM due to unstable voltage. At the same time, keep the test environment temperature and humidity within the normal range to avoid excessively high or low temperatures and excessive humidity from adversely affecting equipment performance.
DISPLAY TEST LINK
Appearance and physical performance inspection:
First, inspect the appearance of the display and carefully check whether the screen has scratches, damage, bright spots or dark spots. Check whether the display shell is deformed or cracked, and whether each button and knob is intact and operates smoothly. Next, test the brightness and contrast of the display. By adjusting the brightness and contrast settings of the display, observe the performance of the screen display under different ambient light. Under normal indoor light conditions, adjust the brightness and contrast to a moderate level to ensure that the screen content is clear and readable, with vivid colors and no distortion. Then, check again whether the screen display is still clear and whether there are any reflections, glare or too dark problems in strong direct light and low light environments.
Display content and function test:
Use the test software to input various types of image and video signals to the display, including simulated scene images of the excavator at work, equipment parameter charts, operation guide text, etc. Check the display’s decoding and display capabilities for different signals to ensure that the image and text are displayed accurately, without blur, ghosting or misalignment. Test the touch function of the display (if available), by touching the virtual buttons and menu options on the screen, check whether the touch response is sensitive and accurate, and whether the feedback of the touch operation is timely. In addition, test the split-screen display, screen switching and other functions of the display to verify whether the display can work normally under the multi-task display requirements, and whether the display between each split screen is independent and does not interfere with each other.
Durability and stability test:
In order to simulate the use of the display during long-term work of the excavator, a durability test is carried out. Allow the monitor to continuously display dynamic images or run test programs for hours or even days without interruption. During this period, closely observe whether the monitor has abnormal phenomena such as freezing, screen distortion, brightness or color mutation. At the same time, during the test, adjust the operating temperature of the monitor in a timely manner, simulate the temperature environment of the monitor under different working conditions of the excavator, check the stability of the monitor when the temperature changes, and ensure that its performance is not affected by temperature fluctuations.
ECM TEST LINK
Hardware connection and communication test:
Use the diagnostic device to establish a connection with the ECM of the E349 through a dedicated data cable. After the connection is completed, open the diagnostic software to check whether the software can successfully identify the ECM and read its basic information such as model and version number. If it cannot be identified normally, check whether the data cable connection is firm, whether the diagnostic device driver is installed correctly, and whether the communication interface of the ECM is damaged. After confirming that the communication connection is normal, test the stability of data transmission between the ECM and other components of the excavator (such as sensors and actuators). Send instructions through the diagnostic software to simulate the sensor transmitting data to the ECM, and observe whether the ECM can receive data in a timely and accurate manner and send corresponding control signals to the actuator. At the same time, monitor the bit error rate during data transmission to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data transmission.
Function and performance test:
Use diagnostic software to test various functions of ECM. For example, test the engine start control function, simulate the start conditions through the diagnostic software, check whether the ECM can control the engine to start smoothly according to the preset program, and whether the parameters (such as fuel injection amount, ignition time, etc.) during the start process are normal. Test the engine speed control function. Under different working conditions, set the engine target speed through the diagnostic software to observe whether the ECM can accurately adjust the engine speed so that it is stable near the target value, and whether the speed fluctuation range is within the allowable error. In addition, test the fault diagnosis and protection functions of ECM, artificially create some common fault scenarios, such as simulated sensor failure, line short circuit, etc., check whether the ECM can detect the fault in time, and record the corresponding fault code, and take effective protection measures, such as limiting the engine power output, triggering alarm signals, etc., to ensure the safety of equipment and personnel.
Compatibility and adaptability test:
Considering that the excavator may use fuel, lubricants and various accessories of different brands and specifications in actual work, the compatibility and adaptability of ECM are tested. During the test, different qualities of fuel are used to check whether ECM can automatically adjust the fuel injection strategy according to the fuel characteristics to ensure the normal operation of the engine and the emission meets the standards. At the same time, various common accessories, such as hydraulic breakers, grabs, etc., are connected to test whether ECM can work with the control systems of these accessories to achieve effective control of the accessories without equipment failure or performance degradation due to compatibility issues.
COMPREHENSIVE TEST AND EVALUATION
Complete machine joint debugging test:
After completing the individual tests of the display and ECM, install them back on the E349 excavator for the whole machine joint debugging test. Start the excavator and operate the equipment to perform various operations, such as digging, rotating, walking, etc. During the operation, observe whether the equipment operating parameters (such as engine speed, oil temperature, oil pressure, working device pressure, etc.) displayed in real time on the display are accurate and whether the display interface is concise and easy to operate. At the same time, through actual operation, feel the control effect of ECM on the engine and the whole system, whether the equipment runs smoothly, whether the power output is sufficient, and whether the operation response is agile.
Data recording and analysis:
During the whole machine joint debugging test, use diagnostic equipment and test software to record a large amount of equipment operation data in real time, including various parameters displayed on the display and control parameters and fault information inside the ECM. After the test, conduct an in-depth analysis of these data. By comparing the normal operation data with the data recorded during the test, determine whether the performance of the display and ECM under different working conditions meets the design requirements. For example, analyze the fuel consumption data and speed fluctuation of the engine under high-load operation, and the display response time of the display in complex operation scenarios, etc., to find out potential problems and performance bottlenecks.
Test report and summary:
Write a detailed test report based on the data collected and the phenomena observed during the test. The report content should include the test purpose, test method, test equipment, problems found during the test and solutions, test result evaluation, etc. In the test result evaluation section, clearly give the conclusion of whether the E349 next-generation display and ECM passed the test. If there are items that failed the test, explain the problem in detail and put forward suggestions for improvement. Finally, summarize the entire test process to provide a reference for subsequent product optimization, quality control and user training.
Through the above comprehensive and systematic test process, the performance of the E349 next-generation display and ECM can be effectively evaluated to ensure that it can meet the complex and changing work requirements of the excavator industry after it is put into use, and provide users with a reliable and efficient equipment operation experience.
